This weekend gone I was in Manchester to see Liz, hang out with her Uni mates and go to the Chibuku Party at the Warehouse Project. Playing was Justice, Busy P, DJ Mehdi, So-Me, The Presets, Fake Blood and Yuksek. I.e pretty much the best line up I’ve ever seen in one night. I was pretty convinced prior to the gig that I would enjoy Justice the most, especially after their live set at Leeds Fest, which was, in short, amazing. However Busy P and Mehdi were way way better, Busy looked genuinely like he was stoked to be there, and really got the crowd going, plus he played the soulwax remix of ‘kids’ and ‘to protect and enterain’ albiet minus the hilarious vocals from Murs. Mehdi was simialrly entertaining, and when he dropped ‘signatune’ it was nothing short of epic. Don’t get me wrong, Justice were good, just not as good as they are live (they were doing a DJ set) and I think I was just happy to be seeing Busy P and Mehdi for the first time.
The warehouse project itself is amazing, it’s actually under Piccadilly Station, and used to be a car park. It’s all brick, no windows, portaloos, and really high vaulted ceilings, plus it has the Funkton 1 soundsystem, that Digital has in Newcastle, and is the loudest in Europe.
